I seriously overthink things.

I hate "business casual". It's easy for guys. And preppy girls. I have a terrible time figuring out what I'm actually suppose to wear for a "business casual" dress meeting. I'm always afraid of dressing too dressy or too casual. Luckily Nettie helped me pack, she's very clothing conscious. Other than changing the shoes she picked and vetoing the skirt in the car, I'm taking the advise of a 9 year old.

I worry about the stupidest shit.

Have some green beer and kiss a red-head today!

Awesome Sister! (yeah, again)

So my little sister's best friend in the whole entire world, J., had to clean out her toys. Her paternal grandmother is coming for Thanksgiving and her mom said clean it up, sort out what goes to charity, or toss it. (MIL have this effect on people, I don't get it.) So J and her sister sorted through their old toys and came up with a box of Bratz dolls to go to the thrift store. When my Dad and Nettie got to their house to pick of J (after she'd finished cleaning her room), J asked Nettie if she'd like some of her old dolls. Nettie said sure and brought the box home to pick through.

The eight dolls were all naked, had ratty knotted hair, and no feet. (Instead of little shoes the Bratz dolls have interchangeable feet. At least they don't have to wear high heels all the time.) Nettie didn't think they looked very good, certainly not good enough to give away.

Sunday afternoon she gave each doll a bath and washed their hair. (Granny had a special Downy solution recipe that works wonders on doll hair and stuffed animals.) Each doll got her own little cupful of rinse so her hair would untangle. Then her hair was combed smooth. Then Nettie, out of her limited selection of Bratz clothing and shoe-feet, found an outfit for each doll and feet for all but one.

Mom encouraged her but the idea for the bathing, etc. came from Nettie. She is so awesome. (most of the time;))

P.S. This is my 101st post!

Confidence

A friend of mine answered a question I've asked here, 'Why do guys fall all over LS but not me?' He said, "confidence." I kind of already knew that. What turns heads when a girl (or guy) walks in a room isn't just her physical appearance it is also that she knows she looks good. But this has been rattling around in my head for the last week or so because it isn't the whole story. (I'll try and make this the short version)

LS is pretty and smart and she knows it. She also, finally, left her husband at the beginning of May. I can't tell you how many times over the last 3 years she said "well, I don't want these years to have been wasted," or "I don't want to just give up." She wasn't giving up; she'd put up with more shit than anyone should have to to try and make her marriage work. The years aren't wasted, unless she doesn't learn from them! For about three glorious weeks she was that pre-teen I met 11 years ago, who wouldn't take shit off of anyone. Then she was shacked up with another guy. He seemed alright to begin with but latter proved himself to be a jackass. She dumped him, went back, dumped him. Not three days latter she was back with her husband, who has treated her like something you'd scrape off the bottom of your shoe for the last three years (the previous 4 weren't much better, but I digress). She may know she's attractive but I'm not sure her confidence goes much beyond that.

People scare me. (And that's why I take happy pills.) I run from conflict. (I'm 31 and still have to leave the room if my parents argue.) I don't project confidence, I know that. But I keep hoping things will get better. (Why? Search me.) I know I don't need a man to make me happy and I can take care of myself. I like my own company. (Even if I get lonely sometimes.) I know that some really great men love me and some really wonderful strong women, too. I also know I have a lot to offer a guy. Maybe not good skin and rock hard abs, but if that's what is most important to him then he isn't worth worrying about. Even when my 'negative self-talk' has reduced me to a blob of quivering goo that just wants to sink into the floorboards, I get out of bed the next morning.

I may not walk in a room and think I'm the best looking woman in there but I KNOW I'm more than a good rack and a cunt. And that should count for something.

It looks like I'm getting a roommate. My former Little Sister (practically part of the family) is finally (Thank God) leaving her husband. Well, I'm on the phone with her as I type and she says I may see her tonight. She did leave him once about a year ago for half a day. But this time she seems tired of it all. Tired of trying. Tired of waiting for him. Tired of being alone. Tired of being controlled. Just tired.

I hate that it has taken 3 years but I am so glad she (fingers crossed) is leaving. She isn't definitely leaving tonight (sometimes her slightly stream-of-conscience monologues can be hard to follow) but she's not staying long. She doesn't want to pack before he gets home. (An attempt at preventing some arguing.) But if things start to get ugly (verbally) she gone with the clothes on her back. Otherwise, as far as I can tell, she'll pack tomorrow.

It is hard to explain how happy I am. One of the hardest things I've had to watch in my 30-yrs is her marring him. And staying. And going back. Kids have to make some mistakes on their own and the rest of us can just watch.

Damn her absent father! If he'd just shown what a real man was like, instead of driving up once every few months to buy her stuff. Maybe then she'd done a little better, or stood up sooner. I know it's really more complicated than that. (But he is such an easy target.)
